Another person in Allegheny County has died from covid-19, raising the death toll to 120, the Allegheny County Health Department said Saturday.

Thirty-one more people were confirmed as having covid-19 or were probable over the past day, raising the total number on Saturday to 1,486 cases that were either confirmed or probable, the health department said.

There have been 273 people hospitalized since the first case in the county was diagnosed in March; that’s an increase of 14 from Friday, the county said. Of that number, 116 have been in the intensive care unit and 66 patients have been on ventilators. The health department said 20,701 people have been tested for coronavirus.

On Thursday, the county reported 45 new cases — the biggest single-day increase in reported cases in two weeks. Officials attributed that increase to a delay in reporting from a new lab.

The youngest person to have died from the coronavirus in Allegheny County was 42 years old and had underlying conditions, county officials said.

Among municipalities outside Pittsburgh, Richland Township has 77 cases. That’s equal to a rate of 69 cases per 10,000 people. Kennedy Township had 51 cases as of Saturday, which is a rate of 66 per 10,000 people.

Data from the county health department shows that 58% of all covid-19 patients have been 50 years old or older. Covid-19 patients age 70 and older account for 22% of all cases.

Those from infancy to 19 years old represent only 2% of all cases in the county.
