Allegheny County Jail inmate who was facing homicide trial dies
Allegheny County police are investigating the death Thursday of an Allegheny County Jail inmate who was facing a murder trial and hung himself Sunday afternoon in his jail cell, authorities said.
The inmate, Timothy L. Pauley, 34, of Moon Township, was found unresponsive in his cell at 5:35 p.m. Sunday., April 7 He was transported to UPMC Mercy hospital where he died on Thursday, the Allegheny County Medical Examiner’s Office said.
The jail’s healthcare department and correctional officers performed CPR until paramedics arrived to take him to UPMC Mercy, according to a statement from Warden Orlando Harper.
Harper said an internal review will be conducted.
Pauley, who had been living in Weirton, W.Va., was awaiting trial in Allegheny County Court on homicide charges for allegedly stabbing Thomas Garner, 48, at a residence in Moon Township on Dec. 10.
Garner told police he shot his assailant as he was being stabbed.
Pauley was found outside a CVS store in Carnegie suffering from a gunshot wound. Pauley told police he was wounded during a robbery.
Pauley was scheduled for a non-jury trial May 16 before Judge Kevin G. Sasinoski.
