An Allegheny County Jail inmate was in critical condition Monday after a suicide attempt, Warden Orlando Harper said.

The incident happened at 5:30 p.m. Sunday.

Harper said the inmate tried to hang himself. Jail staff and correctional officers performed CPR until paramedics arrived and took over. The inmate was taken to an outside hospital.

Allegheny County Police are investigating, and an internal review will be conducted, Harper said.
