Allegheny County reports 240 new coronavirus cases, 17 additional hospitalizations

The latest new batch of coronavirus cases reported in Allegheny County turned higher Friday, after two days of declines.

The county reported 240 new cases, out of 2,118 total tests conducted from June 29 through July 16.

That brings the county’s total cases to date to 5,990. Of the total cases, 5,798 are confirmed and 192 are probable.

The county reported one new death, a person age 97 who died Thursday.

The 17 new hospitalizations are the largest increase reported in recent weeks. To date, total hospitalizations in the county has been 507 — either past or present.

The latest cases reflect ages ranging from 1 month to 97 years old, with a median age of 34.

Officials said among the 206 deaths are individuals ranging in age from 23 to 103, with 84 being the median age of those who have died. Of those, 194 are confirmed and 12 probable.

The gender breakdown of the covid-19 cases is 3,201 male, 2,789 female.
