Allegheny County reports 5 more coronavirus deaths, but only 7 new cases

Five more people have died from the coronavirus in Allegheny County, bringing the countywide death total to 55, county officials said Monday.

Most of the 55 people who died — 85% — were 70 or older, the county said.

Seven new covid-19 cases were reported Monday, a significant decrease from the 26 new cases reported Sunday. The new cases bring the total to 1,042 since March 14, when the first case was reported.

The county reported 62 new cases on Saturday, 22 cases Friday, 21 on Thursday, 11 on Wednesday, 17 on Tuesday and 19 on Monday.

More than 12,000 people have been tested for the coronavirus in Allegheny County. The number of people hospitalized remained at 180 on Monday. Of those, 69 have been admitted to an ICU unit and 42 have required the use of a ventilator or breathing machine, the county reported.

There were 948 new coronavirus cases statewide and 92 more deaths reported Monday by the Pennsylvania Department of Health.

The statewide death toll now stands at 1,204.
