Samples for covid-19 testing are prepared at MHS Labs in Monroeville on March 27, 2020.

Allegheny County officials reported 29 new covid-19 cases but no new deaths Wednesday afternoon.

That leaves the total number of deaths countywide at 144, while the total number of confirmed and probable cases rose to 1,687.

The county typically reports those daily figures around 11 a.m. but Wednesday’s report was delayed because of a technology issue involving the state’s reporting system for coronavirus data.

Labs conducting testing report directly to the state database, and the Allegheny County Health Department extracts county-level data from there, health department Director Dr. Debra Bogen said during a press briefing Wednesday.

The first case was reported in Allegheny County on March 14. Since then, more than 25,000 tests have been administered in Allegheny County, which moved to the yellow phase of Gov. Tom Wolf’s reopening plan last week.

As of Tuesday, the state was reporting 63,666 cases of the virus and 4,624 deaths.
