A Pittsburgh man suspected in a recent Munhall shooting was arrested Wednesday morning by Allegheny County Sheriff’s deputies.
Santonyo Lewis, 44, of the city’s North Side, tried to elude deputies but was tracked down by the sheriff’s police dog, Woody.
Lewis was wanted on charges stemming from an incident Jan. 7 when he allegedly shot a man in the leg in the 600 block of East 19th Avenue following an argument with his girlfriend. The man was transported to a local hospital. He is listed in stable condition and expected to recover.
Deputies and officers from Allegheny County, Munhall and Homestead police departments attempted to arrest Lewis Wednesday. He jumped from a residence and ran.
Officers were searching for Lewis between 19th and 17th avenues in Munhall when Woody found him hiding beneath a back porch of a home. He was arrested and taken by county homicide detectives for questioning.
Lewis’ preliminary hearing is scheduled for Feb. 6 at 1 p.m. before Munhall Magisterial District Judge Thomas R. Torkowsky.
