A Port Authority bus moves along Noble Drive after leaving the West Mifflin garage Wednesday, April 29, 2020.

Another Port Authority of Allegheny County employee who works out of the authority’s West Mifflin garage has tested positive for covid-19, the authority said Wednesday.

It is the 17th case involving a Port Authority employee.

The employee has been in a medically directed self-quarantine since March 19, but they tested positive Tuesday, the Port Authority said.

Port Authority spokesman Adam Brandolph said he could not explain the circumstances behind how the employee contracted the disease.

The driver is based at the authority’s West Mifflin garage, where the majority of its 17 cases have originated.

More than 100 Port Authority workers aren’t working because they are self-quarantining, have pre-existing health conditions or other covid-19 issues.

The Port Authority employs more than 2,600 people, including 1,300 drivers and 800 mechanics.
