Pine-Richland Middle School and Pine-Richland High School are closed for students and staff Wednesday as officials investigate a bomb threat, according to an announcement on the district’s website.

The Northern Regional Police Department is assessing the cyber threat and is continuing to search the high school, middle school and stadium with canine units Wednesday, the district said.

The district’s four elementary schools remain open and on a normal schedule.

However, all after-school and evening activities involving high school and middle school students, including competitions, are canceled for Wednesday. The Pine-Richland Middle School open house scheduled for this evening will be rescheduled, and the district will send additional information within the next few days.

Northern Regional Police remain on site. Both schools are expected to reopen Thursday, albeit with additional security procedures. The district is prohibiting backpacks and other types of bags. Only clear plastic bags will be permitted for books, lunches and other clothing or equipment.

While Pine-Richland School District officials felt confident to continue regular operations at its other schools, additional police presence has been added as a precaution.

On Monday, a bomb threat was found on a bathroom wall at the middle school, according to Tribune-Review news partner WPXI.

The message said: “I make school go boom.”

Police searched the building Monday and found nothing. Classes continued Monday, but after-school activities were canceled.

The district has not said whether Monday’s threat is related to the one that closed the school Wednesday.

Anyone with information is asked to call the district tip line at 724-449-8477.
