A bullet fired during an apparent drive-by shooting in Hazelwood on Monday afternoon went through the side door of an unoccupied school, according to police.

Pittsburgh police from the Zone 4 station responded to a ShotSpotter report near the intersection of East Elizabeth and Gertrude streets around 4:10 pm., according to a department of public safety spokesman.

Officers arriving at the scene discovered a vehicle that had been shot many times.

No one was injured during the incident, according to police.

Crime scene investigators recovered shell casings from the scene, including one from a bullet that went through the glass of a door at a school building, police said.

No students were in the building at the time.

Witnesses told Tribune-Review news partners WPXI-TV that the bullet came from a drive-by shooting incident.

The TV station reported that one of the bullets that was fired hit the Spartan Community Center, which offers after-school programs for children.
