A car rear-ended a Port Authority of Allegheny County bus Friday evening in Pittsburgh’s Strip District, sending both drivers to hospitals with minor injuries, officials said.

The 87 Friendship bus was headed outbound and stopped on Liberty Avenue at 25th Street when it was struck by the car shortly before 6 p.m., Port Authority spokesman Adam Brandolph said.

Medics took the bus driver to West Penn Hospital and the car’s driver to UPMC Presbyterian hospital in Oakland, both for treatment of possible neck injuries. None of the injuries were expected to be life-threatening, Brandolph said.

About 10 people were on the bus, according to Port Authority. One woman was evaluated by medics but not taken to a hospital.

By 7 p.m., the car had been towed and a truck was en route to tow the bus, Brandolph said.

The bus had damage to its engine as well as its bumper and must be repaired before returning to service.
