The U.S. Postal Service has suspended retail services at the Pittsburgh Network Distribution Center in Marshall after a chemical spill.
Spokesman Tad Kelley said the chemical was identified as mercury.
“All employees are safe and accounted for and none were exposed to the contaminant,” Kelley said Tuesday. “Professional environmental contractors are conducting tests to evaluate, clean and certify the safety of the plant.”
The center at 300 Brush Creek Road remained closed as of Tuesday morning, and it was not known when it would reopen, Kelley said.
“We’ve been able to move operations to nearby facilities. We expect limited to no impacts on mail service,” Kelley said.
Customers were being directed to use either the Cranberry post office at 240 Executive Drive or the Wexford post office at 10675 Perry Highway.

“The Postal Service appreciates our customers’ patience and regrets any inconvenience during this temporary closure,” the postal service said in the release.
