Cleveland-based Platform Beer plans a location in Garfield this summer.

Cleveland-based Platform Beer plans to open a brewery and tasting room in the East End this summer.

A lease is being finalized on a two-story, 8,000-square-foot building on Penn Avenue in Garfield to house a brew house, canning line, barrel aging, and more than 100 seats and 24 taps.

“We are opening with a big enough brew house to allow for a nice variety of draft beer made on site,” said co-owner Paul Benner. “Our packaging capability will also allow for limited can release offerings on a regular basis. Locals will be able to experience some of our more unique, smaller batch beers.”

The space also will feature a kitchen with a specialized food menu, along with a private area for larger events.

Co-owner Justin Carson said the Pittsburgh market made sense for Platform to venture out of Ohio.

“Existing distribution, consumer drinking trends, geography, location of the space and the desire to engage with the local community are just a few reasons why we are so excited to call Pittsburgh our next home,” Carson said.

Platform crafts an ever-changing variety of brews that blur the edges of beer styles. Offerings include Speed Merchant White IPA, New Cleveland Pale Ale/Pilsner Hybrid, a Small Batch IPA Series featuring New England Style IPAs, a variety of fruited sour beers and a series of exclusive taprooms-only barrel-aged clean and sour beers.
