A Carnegie Mellon University staffer is accused of using a cell phone to shoot video up the skirts of two women waiting at a Pittsburgh bus stop.

Campus police have charged Edward H. Jones Jr., 72, of Pittsburgh, with two misdemeanor counts of invasion of privacy stemming from his alleged encounter with two female CMU students at a Port Authority bus stop at Fifth and Morewood avenues — next to the Mudge House, a university residence hall.

University police arrested Jones Tuesday at the bus stop and seized his phone, after they were summoned by the boyfriend of one of the students.

According to court documents, Jones admitted to police that, in a “moment of weakness,” he hid the phone in his backpack and recorded video images up the skirts of the females at the stop.

One of the students told police that Jones “sandwiched himself” between her and the other student and “fidgeted” with his backpack, the criminal complaint states. According to police, the student said she later noticed the backpack was lying on the sidewalk underneath where she’d been standing, and the cell phone was in a front pocket with the camera lens facing upward.

The second student allegedly told police that Jones “came into a narrow space” between the two females although there were other locations at the stop where he could have stood.

Jones was issued a summons to appear in Pittsburgh Municipal Court for a May 16 preliminary hearing.

The university’s online staff directory lists an Edward Jones working in research and academic administration.

CMU spokesperson Julie Mattera said the university doesn’t comment on personnel matters.

“Police were alerted to the alleged incident and made an arrest of the accused individual,” Mattera said in a statement. “The university responded by making the appropriate resources available to those impacted.”
