Community mourns sudden death of West Mifflin student-athlete
A student-athlete in the West Mifflin Area School District has died.
High School principal Chad Licht sent a letter home to parents on Tuesday informing them of the “recent loss to our school community” who “unexpectedly passed away.”
“This loss is sure to raise many emotions, concerns and questions for our entire school, especially our students,” Licht wrote. “We are saddened by the loss to our school community and will make every effort to help you and your child.”
The letter urges students to speak with school counselors and members of a crisis intervention team that will be at the school.
The letter does not name the student, but West Mifflin police confirmed that the death of Dasani Green, 17, is being investigated.
The Allegheny County Medical Examiner’s office, which will determine the cause and manner of Green’s death, said the teen died at 9:58 a.m. Tuesday at a home in the 800 block of Anna Avenue in West Mifflin.
Green was a senior on the West Mifflin football and track teams.
“Dasani was a super nice kid,” Licht said Wednesday morning. “He rarely missed school, had a 3.5 grade point average, was a good athlete who was well liked by his peers.”
Licht said Green was both outgoing and quiet and “loved art.”
