The Family Dollar on Chartiers Avenue in Crafton is still working on a pest control problem, even though the Allegheny County Health Department lifted a consumer alert against the store April 29.

The most recent alert was issued April 18 following complaints about rodent droppings and pests in the store.

A reinspection April 29 found one bag of pretzels with a hole chewed through it, along with “droppings, urine, chewed food and product packaging found on top of popcorn boxes and bags,” according to the inspection report.

The health department declined to comment on the case except to say that a compliance inspection will be done within 30 days.

Other observations described as “high-risk” noted in the report included “too many droppings to count” found under shelves throughout the store, in the stock room and near pet food.

A dead mouse was found on a trap near the toilet paper, the report said.

The report also noted that a gap in the wall near the back of the store was still in the same condition inspectors observed during an April 18 inspection.

Such complaints date back to December 2018, and a similar consumer alert about the store was issued in March but lifted March 18.
