State police in Somerset said a 26-year-old McKees Rocks woman attempted to smuggle suboxone and paper strips soaked in synthetic cannabis into SCI Somerset on Nov. 14, 2019.

A McKees Rocks woman has been charged with attempting to smuggle drugs into a Somerset County prison on Nov. 14.

State police charged Christine Guy, 26, of McKees Rocks, with felony counts of drug possession and bringing contraband into a prison, along with related misdemeanors, after they say she tried to bring suboxone and paper strips soaked with a synthetic form of cannabis into SCI Somerset last week.

A canine officer and its handler were conducting air scans at the prison when the dog alerted to the presence of drugs near Guy, according to a criminal complaint.

“The canine further alerted to the mouth area of Guy,” police wrote in a release. “Guy was then observed to swallow the contents contained in her mouth.”

A body scan showed the presence of a foreign substance in Guy’s stomach area, and she later orally aspirated “eight balloon-type packages that were determined to contain suboxone and K2-soaked paper strips,” police wrote in the release.

A combined total of 365 suboxone and paper strips were seized, along with a small amount of marijuana, Xanax and drug paraphernalia found in Guy’s car, which was parked on the SCI Somerset grounds according to police.

Guy was taken to Somerset County Jail and faces a Nov. 21 preliminary hearing in Judge Kenneth W. Johnson’s Somerset court. Her bail was set at $50,000.
