A Coraopolis man was sentenced to eight years in federal prison last week for providing the drug that prosecutors say killed a Moon Township woman more than two years ago.

Cleo Maurice Bronaugh, 42, pleaded guilty over the summer to providing a woman, identified only by the initials L.T., with the fentanyl that resulted in her overdose death, U.S. Attorney Scott W. Brady said.

According to Brady, Bronaugh gave the fentanyl to L.T. in March 2017.

Brady said Bronaugh attempted to warn L.T. and her family members about the potency of the drug by leaving numerous phone messages, but those messages didn’t reach L.T. in time and she died.

The Allegheny County Medical Examiner’s Office later determined that L.T. died from fentanyl toxicity.

Bronaugh has been detained since his initial appearance in federal court and will continue to remain so until he is assigned to a federal prison, prosecutors said.

In addition to his prison sentence, Bronaugh also was sentenced to six years of supervised release after he serves his time.
