County health department issues consumer warning for a Ross market

A consumer alert has been issued by the Allegheny Health Department for the Oriental Market on McKnight Road in Ross.

Eight crates of sliced fish were found Thursday sitting directly outdoors under no protection in the parking lot during an inspection, the department said.

Flies were also observed on the fish carcasses, according to the inspection report.

An operator only partially complied with a request for fish to be discarded and attempted to conceal the rest of the fish from authorities in a cooler, which an inspector noted was a repeat violation.

The report stated the kitchen has no hand-washing facility, no ventilation, or commercial equipment.

The room was also deemed not suitable for safe food preparation.

An inspector also found food stored at unsafe temperatures, and there were soiled cardboard and newspapers in front of the wok in the back kitchen area.

An employee who answered the phone at the market wouldn’t comment Friday evening.
