The Fort Pitt Tunnel outbound was closed Sunday morning, Nov. 17, 2019, while authorities investigated an accident on I-376 West near the Banksville Road exit.

The Fort Pitt Tunnel outbound reopened to traffic about 8:15 a.m. Sunday after the highway was closed for nearly three hours while authorities investigated a fatal pedestrian accident on I-376 West near the Banksville Road exit, according to state police.

State Trooper Melinda Bondarenka said a 45-year-old man was struck and killed by an outbound car.

At 10 p.m.Sunday the Allegheny County Medical Examiner’s office identified the man as Gary Charles Gregrich Jr., of McKees Rocks.

Bonderanka, of the state police’s Pittsburgh station, said dispatchers received a call at about 5:30 a.m. that a man who had been walking along the Parkway West was hit by a car.

The driver remained on scene and was not believed to be impaired, she added.
