The body of a 13-year-old girl who went missing in the Monongahela River on Friday has been found, West Mifflin police said Saturday.

The Allegheny County Medical Examiner identified her as Kristina Rai.

The search began at about 6 p.m. Friday when the girl was reported missing in the water near a fishing hole in the area of Lebanon School Road and Route 837 (Clairton Dravosburg Road), West Mifflin police said.

West Mifflin Police Chief Anthony Topolnak told Trib news partner WPXI that the girl was fishing on the river with her family before the incident.

The road was closed between Dravosburg and Clairton as agencies looked for the girl, police said.

Divers assisted in the search Friday.

Rescue crews resumed searching for the girl at 6:30 a.m. Saturday.

West Mifflin police confirmed shortly after 2 p.m. Saturday that she had been found. No other information was immediately available.

Staff writers Brian C. Rittmeyer and Renatta Signorini contributed to this report.
