DA: Castle Shannon man accused of bilking heating company of $90K
A Castle Shannon man surrendered to Allegheny County detectives Thursday after he was charged with stealing more than $90,000 from a Bethel Park heating and cooling business between April 2018 and August 2019, according to a criminal complaint filed against him.
Anthony James Laugelli, 32, was a sales manager at J&A South Park Heating and Cooling from December 2014 until he was fired in August after the thefts were discovered, according to a criminal complaint.
Laugelli is accused of arranging 14 work orders for the company, but having the customers pay Laugelli’s side business, AJL Property Solutions instead of J&A, according to the complaint.
To cover the lost money, Laugelli is accused of engaging in a scheme using money provided by home warranty companies to reimburse J&A for the cash, according to the complaint.
Laugelli was paid $52,213.51 for work that would have provided J&A with $92,029, according to the complaint. The home warranty scheme Laugelli allegedly used to conceal the thefts totaled $18,552.52, according to the complaint.
Laugelli is facing three theft charges and a count of receiving stolen property, according to the complaint.
He was released on $25,000 unsecured bail, according to court records.
His attorney, Casey White, didn’t immediately return a message seeking comment. J&A declined to comment on the case.
