The driver of a pickup involved in an October 2019 rollover crash on the Tri-Boro Expressway between Turtle Creek and Wilmerding that killed a passenger has been charged in connection with the man’s death.

Allegheny County police said Edward Wharton, 57, of North Versailles, was driving drunk and speeding on Oct. 20, 2019, when the truck tried to pass another vehicle and hit a jersey barrier causing it to rollover.

Both Wharton and his passenger, William Guyaux, 55, also of North Versailles, were ejected. Guyaux died from his injuries, police said.

Police said they reconstructed the crash and found the truck was traveling between 57 and 67 mph although the posted speed limit is 45 mph.

Wharton’s blood alcohol level was above the legal limit, and he was charged with homicide by vehicle, homicide by vehicle while driving drunk, involuntary manslaughter and other DUI and traffic violations.

Police are asking anyone who may have witnessed the crash to call them at 1-833-255-8477.
