Duquesne Light announced Wednesday it is waiving late fees for its customers from now until at least May 1.

The news follows an earlier announcement that the utility is temporarily discontinuing service shutoffs for all customers.

Both initiatives are designed to assist Duquesne Light customers in their greatest time of need, Chief Customer Officer Dave Johnson said.

“Now more than ever before, our customers are relying on us to power their homes and businesses. This is a moment when we can show up for them and offer assistance when they need it most,” Johnson said.

Duquesne Light said it also will minimize power interruptions, including many planned outages, in order to maintain service to residential, commercial and industrial customers.

The company announced it is implementing additional inspections of the equipment powering hospitals and other critical services.

It also said it is taking steps to protect employees and customers, including assigning remote work for office-based employees, domestic and international travel restrictions for all employees, and increased sanitation of critical work facilities.
