Fatal Penn Hills pedestrian accident victim not ID'd, no relatives found
The identity of a man who died after being hit by a car in Penn Hills last week has not be released because authorities can’t find any relatives to notify.
The Allegheny County Medical Examiner’s Office said the 66-year-old Penn Hills resident was struck and killed while crossing Saltsburg Road shortly before 1:30 p.m. on June 12.
Allegheny County police continue to investigate.
The medical examiner’s office said the man died from trauma to the neck and trunk. His death was ruled accidental.
According to police, emergency responders arrived at the scene and found the man’s body lying on the street between a car wash and the McDonald’s in the Alcoma Plaza shopping center.
The crash was witnessed by several people, including 8-year-old David Guastaferro.
He was picked up by his mother, Tammy Guastaferro, from Penn Hills Elementary School because it closed early that day due to a water main break along Jefferson Road.
“The guy was going fast down the road, and he tried to slam on his brakes, and he didn’t stop automatically. He slid and hit him. It was scary,” David said.
Witnesses said cars continued to drive around the man in the street. Finally, police came to block the road and tend to him.
“I think maybe he was going to McDonald’s to eat. But he died,” David said.
County officials have not released any more information about the crash, which shut down Saltsburg Road between Alcoma Plaza and Twin Oak Drive for several hours.
Anyone with information about the incident is asked to call the Allegheny County Police tip line at 1-833-255-8477 and callers can remain anonymous.
