A Brookline man accused of assisting a drug dealer with packaging and distributing cocaine has admitted his guilt in federal court, authorities announced Thursday.
Walter John Amman, III, 68, pleaded guilty to conspiracy and possession charges and is expected to be sentenced in June, according to a release from the federal prosecutor’s office in Pittsburgh.
Authorities said Armman helped Richard Wright, 77, of Beechview process, package and distribute cocaine.
Wright allegedly purchased kilograms of cocaine for more than two decades, and converted some into crack. A money laundering and drug case against Wright is pending.
Authorities said two controlled buys of cocaine were made from Amman. The federal Drug Enforement Agency, IRS and Pittsburgh Police obtained search warrants for locations used by Amman and the co-defendant.
During a search of Wright’s residence in January 2017, authorities found cocaine, firearms, thousands of rounds of ammunition, large amounts of cash and multiple vehicles registered to Amman.
At Amman’s residence, investigators found firearms, prepackaged crack and cocaine in a jacket with Amman’s name on it and a truck with about $1,000 in cash and more prepackaged cocaine.
The IRS and DEA conducted the investigation that led to Amman’s arrest with assistance from the Pittsburgh Bureau of Police.
