Singer Fee Waybill of The Tubes performs as his alter ego, Quay Lewd, at Jergel’s Rhythm Grille in Warrendale on Jan. 24.

For nearly a half-century, Fee Waybill has been the voice and the face of The Tubes, the San Francisco-based band that made a name for itself in the early days of MTV with hit songs like “Talk to Ya Later” and “She’s a Beauty” — and the memorable videos that went with them.

Waybill and The Tubes are still performing live shows as energetically as ever. They proved that over the weekend when they brought the house down at Jergel’s Rhythm Grille in Warrendale.

Before the show, Waybill sat down with us to talk about the history of the band, touring with David Bowie, and the story behind “White Punks on Dope.”
