A year after her parents were at the center of the nationwide college admissions scandal, Sophia Macy announced her new college plans will bring her to Pittsburgh.
Macy, the daughter of actors Felicity Huffman and William H. Macy, was accepted into Carnegie Mellon University, People reported late Monday. Her updated Instagram biography indicates she will be in the drama program.
Huffman in October served 11 days in prison after she admitted to fixing Macy’s SAT scores. The “Desperate Housewives” actress also was sentenced to 250 hours of community service and a year of probation after pleading guilty to fraud and conspiracy for paying an admissions consultant $15,000 to have a proctor correct her daughter’s SAT answers.
A Carnegie Mellon spokesperson said the university does not comment on individual students’ admission.
After the scandal was uncovered last year, Huffman said her daughter was not aware of what had occurred.
“I am in full acceptance of my guilt, and with deep regret and shame over what I have done, I accept full responsibility for my actions and will accept the consequences that stem from those actions,” Huffman said at the time.
People reported Macy retook the SAT after previous college offers were rescinded. Her sister, Georgia, will attend Vassar College in the fall.
Carnegie Mellon ranked No. 10 in Niche’s top performing arts colleges for 2020. Ted Danson, Judith Light, Leslie Odom Jr. and Billy Porter are among the program’s notable alumni.
Huffman was one of 51 people charged in the scandal, including “Full House” star Lori Loughlin. Loughlin and her husband, Mossimo Giannulli, are accused of paying $500,000 to have their two daughters labeled as recruits to the Southern Cal crew team so they could gain admission to the school, even though neither participated in the sport.
