Firefighters battling 2-alarm blaze at Robinson apartment building

Residents of an three-story apartment building in Robinson were evacuated early Friday morning after a fire broke out.

Heavy smoke and flames were visible when firefighter responded to the the 1000 block of Westpointe Drive at around 5:45 a.m., according to emergency dispatchers.

The fire went to two alarms at about 6:30 a.m. to summon more emergency personnel to the scene.

Tribune-Review news partners WPXI-TV reported that a man who lives in the apartment were the fire started jumped from a window to escape but was not hurt.

Two other people suffered minor injuries.

One unit was badly damaged by fire and another four units were damaged by smoke and water, the TV station reported.

The apartment building housed 200 students who attend the Pittsburgh Technical College. The students who were displaced will be staying in supplemental housing in the same apartment complex.
