Florida woman arrested at Pittsburgh airport checkpoint with stolen gun
A Florida woman was arrested after she was caught with a stolen handgun in her carry-on bag at the Pittsburgh International Airport, according to TSA.
Diana Lynn Askew, 53, of Plantation, Fla., had a loaded .38 caliber handgun, police said. TSA officers on Monday detected the weapon at the airport checkpoint X-ray machine with her carry-on items, officials said.
It was the third handgun TSA officers discovered at the checkpoint within 10 days. The first was found on Jan. 11 and the second on Jan. 13.
Allegheny County Police responded to the checkpoint, confiscated the gun and detained Askew for questioning, officials said.
Officials said that the gun had previously been reported as stolen. County police on Wednesday said the gun had been stolen in Hopewell, Beaver County, in 2017.
Askew was charged with a single felony count of receiving stolen property and was released from the Allegheny County Jail Monday after posting $2,500 bond.
A preliminary hearing is set for Feb. 10.
