Boxes of food are loaded into cars at the Greater Pittsburgh Community Food Bank’s emergency drive-up food distribution site at Pittsburgh International Airport last week.

First National Bank’s parent company, FNB Corp., is donating $50,000 to the Greater Pittsburgh Community Food Bank for use in its covid-19 emergency food relief effort.

The donation, announced Monday, is part of FNB’s $1 million commitment to support efforts throughout the seven states the Pittsburgh-based bank serves.

“Providing food and resources to those in need is especially important during this global health crisis, and FNB is committed to supporting the needs of the Pittsburgh region,” FNB Chairman, President and CEO Vincent J. Delie said in a statement.

Based in Duquesne, the food bank has been serving thousands of people during the coronavirus pandemic by offering drive-up distributions, including one from noon to 3 p.m. today in Duquesne.

The food bank distributes two boxes of food to each vehicle that provides enough food for 40 meals. For more information and other upcoming distributions, click here.

“We’re so thankful for the FNB donation,” food bank spokeswoman Beth Burrell said.

For every $1 donated to the food bank, five meals can be provided to people, she said.

FNB’s donation could provide 250,000 meals, she said.
