Food Podcast: Food Bank, PNC partner to kick off Turkey Fund
The Greater Pittsburgh Community Food Bank and PNC Bank are partnering to help kick off the KDKA-TV Turkey Fund.
The KD Turkey Fund started about 38 years ago when a viewer sent a check for $25 to former KDKA commentator Al Julius.
“What we’re trying to do is get the entire viewing area, the 10-county viewing area for southwestern Pennsylvania, to participate and that is to help people in need and to help them provide a great Thanksgiving dinner,” Jim Balouris, executive vice president at PNC Bank, said during this week’s episode of the “Food Podcast.”
PNC supports the Turkey Fund by providing up to a $50,000 match for each donation made that is $50 or greater.
“Last year we served nearly 30,000 households from the KD Turkey Fund,” said Brian Gulish, vice president of marketing and communications at the food bank.
PNC and the food bank have committed to reaching a new goal this year.
“I’d like to get to the $600,000 mark, put more food on the table, and any time you have a goal, you want to exceed it,” Balouris said.
