Forest Hills Mayor Frank Porco Sunday said he moved to close the municipal pool for the next week out of an abundance of caution and to adhere to the Allegheny County Health Department’s order prohibiting gatherings of more than 25 people for a period of one week.

“I want to apologize if I worried anybody who attended the pool this week, that was not my intention,” Porco wrote in a statement on the municipality’s website.

He stressed that no member of the pool staff has exhibited any symptoms of covid-19 or tested positive for the virus, but added officials have have advised members of the pool staff and their parents to monitor themselves for symptoms and be tested if they exhibit symptoms of any kind.

“If there is any change in status, meaning if any member of our staff tests positive or exhibits symptoms, everyone who has attended Forest Hills Pool in the last two weeks, will be immediately contacted and advised,” Porco said.

This story has been updated to correct the spelling of the mayor’s last name.
