There’s a new restaurant at the site of the once-beloved Dunning’s Grill in Regent Square .

Frick Park Tavern on Braddock Avenue opened Tuesday.

Owner James Brown chose the name because his mother, Louise Brown, once worked as director of Citiparks, and he grew up close to Frick Park.

Brown opened Ease Modern Comfort Cuisine in the same location in 2016, but the place never took off. He decided to rebrand as Frick Park Tavern.

“We really want to make an impact on this community,” Brown said. “We are focused on serving quality of food. We make meals from scratch and use quality ingredients so it feels like you are dining at home, simple but tasty.”

Chef Eric Riley has been preparing menu items that include small plates of mussels, tacos and calamari as well as soups and salads. He also serves up a burger, grilled vegetable Panini, the Tavern steak or fresh catch of the day.

Riley describes the food as American Contemporary.

“We treat every meal with care,” he said. “We are not re-inventing the wheel, just trying to do it better than everyone else.”

There are 45 wines, a wide selection of beers and craft cocktails.

“We wanted it to have a warm, cozy atmosphere,” said Lyndsey Shumate, general manager. “We love it here and want to be a big part of Regent Square. We love it here and want to be a big part of Regent Square.”

The place seats 98.

Hours are 5 to 10 p.m. Tuesday through Thursday, 5 to 11 p.m. Friday and Saturday and 4 to 9 p.m. Sunday.
