The funeral for slain Pittsburgh police Officer Calvin Hall is scheduled for Tuesday at Soldiers and Sailors Memorial Hall in Oakland.

Hall, 36, was shot several times while he was off-duty and visiting friends in Homewood early Sunday, police said. He died shortly after noon Wednesday at UPMC Presbyterian.

An End of Watch ceremony will take place Saturday at 8 p.m. — what would have been the end of Hall’s shift, public safety spokesman Chris Togneri said. The ceremony will be at the bureau’s Zone 1 station on the North Side.

Brighton Road between Pennsylvania and California avenues will close at 7 p.m. and remain closed until the ceremony ends, Togneri said.

Other closures include: Jacksonia between Cameo and Brighton; Freedmore from Brighton to McCullough; and Columbia Place and Wright Way near Brighton.

A viewing will be held noon to 8 p.m. Monday at Soldiers and Sailors Memorial Hall. Tuesday’s funeral there will begin at 11 a.m., with burial to follow at Homewood Cemetery.

Mayor Bill Peduto said Hall fought hard to live.

“The family has been courageous,” he said. “They went through living hell over the course of the past several days.”

Police have said several parties on Monticello Street spilled onto the street around 1:30 a.m., and an argument escalated into gunfire.

The 36-year-old officer lived in West Mifflin and was engaged to be married, his family said. Hall previously worked as an officer in Braddock. Most recently, he was stationed in Pittsburgh’s Northview Heights.

Police were questioning a person of interest Thursday night, but no charges have been filed in the homicide.
