The Allegheny County Health Department can close or cite restaurants for food safety violations.

The PGH Crepes Trailer, a food cart operating in Pittsburgh’s Oakland neighborhood, was ordered to close Thursday after Allegheny County Health Department inspectors found that foods were not being stored and prepared properly.

Refrigerator and freezer items were not stored at cool enough temperatures, while other food, like eggs and cheese, were not stored to avoid cross-contamination, the report said.

Inspectors also found that the trailer does not have running water.

Waste water was not disposed of properly, and there was no way to clean food surfaces, sanitize utensils or wash hands, the report said.

The report also recommended that the facility obtain a certified food protection manager.

The family-owned PGH Crepes also operates food trucks serving sites around the city. Recent inspection reports show that those food trucks are in good standing with the health department.

A call to the owners was not immediately returned.
