Pennsylvania cardholders can apply for and receive Real ID, the federally compliant identification needed to fly commercially next year.

The Pennsylvania Department of Transportation began issuing the cards March 1.

The only Real ID center in the Pittsburgh region that provides same-day service is the Bridgeville location at 1025 Washington Pike, Rt. 50. All other driver’s license centers will mail Real IDs within 15 business days.

The Real ID Act, passed by Congress in 2005 in response to the 9/11 terrorist attacks, established federal security standards for state driver’s licenses and ID cards.
