Pittsburgh police arrested a Homestead man Friday in connection with the shooting of a man who was in a car with a woman and a child.

William Griffin IV, 20, faces attempted homicide charges for the July 30 shooting in the city’s Arlington neighborhood.

Shot Spotter notifications and 911 calls shortly before 1 p.m. led first responders to the intersection of Arlington Avenue and Fort Hill Street, where they found a man suffering gunshot wounds in the passenger seat of a Nissan.

A woman had been in the driver’s seat, and a child was strapped into a car seat in the backseat, according to the criminal complaint against Griffin.

The woman told police they had been in the parked car when a black sedan with tinted windows pulled up next to them, according to the complaint. A man in the passenger seat lowered the window and opened fire, and then the car sped away on Brent Street, hitting another car in the process.

The injured man was taken to UPMC Mercy in critical condition, according to police. He was later upgraded to stable condition. Authorities have not identified him

Days later, the victim told police he knew the man who shot him only by the street name Whooski, according to the complaint. Detectives linked Griffin to the the street name, and the female driver involved in the shooting picked Griffin out of a photo array, police said.

She told officers she was 100% certain and “my heart dropped, I am that sure,” according to the complaint.

In addition to attempted homicide charges, Griffin is charged with aggravated assault, conspiracy, firearms violations and reckless endangerment. Police said Griffin was taken into custody and remains at Allegheny County Jail. Court records did not list an attorney.
