Joint state House, Senate session planned to honor of Tree of Life victims
The state Legislature plans to hold a rare joint session this week in remembrance of the synagogue shooting that claimed 11 lives in Pittsburgh’s Squirrel Hill neighborhood in late October.
The House and Senate chambers will convene on Wednesday as an act of solidarity in support of the people and communities affected by the Oct. 27 tragedy when a shooter killed 11 people and injured seven others at the Tree of Life synagogue.
Family members of victims and members of Tree of Life, Dor Hadash and New Light — the three Jewish congregations holding worship services inside the Tree of Life building at the time of the attack — will be present for the joint session, state Rep. Dan Frankel’s office said Monday.
The House and Senate will vote on a resolution by Frankel to establish April 10 as “Stronger Than Hate Day.”
Frankel also will deliver remarks to fellow lawmakers.
The joint session can be streamed via a live video feed at PAHouse.com/.
Separately, Frankel has cited the Tree of Life attack in proposed legislation to abolish state law that prohibits municipalities from enacting gun control legislation.
