Kennywood Park has scored big in a new amusement park industry survey.
Kennywood claimed the title as Favorite Traditional Park in the 33rd annual NAPHA Amusement Park and Attractions Survey. Knoebels Amusement Resort in Elysburg, Pa., came in second. According to organization, the two parks have been the tops in the standings since 1996, with each holding one of the top two positions throughout the years.
The park’s roller coasters were also recognized in the survey: Phantom’s Revenge came in first as Favorite Steel Roller Coaster; the Jack Rabbit, which turns 100 this year, tied for second for Favorite Wood Roller Coaster; and the Steel Curtain took Favorite New Attraction.
Disneyland in Anaheim, Calif., and Walt Disney World in Lake Buena Vista, Fla., were named Favorite Theme Parks, while Busch Gardens in Williamsburg, Va., was named Most Beautiful park.
Kennywood, which was scheduled to open May 2, said they do not have a new opening date, though they hope to open this summer.
The National Amusement Park Historical Association was founded in 1978 and is made up of amusement park enthusiasts.
