A man shot and paralyzed 20 years ago in Pittsburgh’s Knoxville neighborhood died Sunday, according to the medical examiner’s office.

Omar Patterson was 15 when he was shot in the chest as he walked down Sylvania Way, an alley near his home, shortly before 6 p.m. on Feb. 11, 1999.

Neighbors at the time told detectives they heard gunshots and looked out to see Patterson lying on the street, according to Tribune-Review archives.

The Allegheny County Medical Examiner’s Office has not released a cause of death for Patterson, who was 35.
