Route 51 in Moon closed by landslide will remained blocked through Monday
A section of Route 51 in Moon Township will remain closed at least until Monday because a landslide early Thursday dumped tons of debris onto the busy road and knocked down utility lines, the Pennsylvania Department of Transportation reported.
PennDOT spokeswoman Yasmeen Manyisha said engineers would monitor the slide area between Purdy and Stoops Ferry roads through the weekend and determine Monday whether further work is necessary to stabilize the hillside that fell.
The slide happened near the intersection with Stoops Ferry Road, which PennDOT repaved over the summer, and Inches Nursery. Stoops Ferry Road is accessible from Flaugherty Run Road.
Local police are advising drivers to avoid the area.
More more than 770 Duquesne Light customers were without power for a brief period because of the slide.
Suggested detours are Flaugherty Run Road, Spring Run Road or Purdy Road.
