As the Pittsburgh Zoo & PPG Aquarium waits to learn when it can reopen, plans are in the works as to how the zoo will operate with social distancing.
The zoo is closed to the public because of the covid-19 pandemic.
Gov. Tom Wolf has not given dates when zoos in Pennsylvania may reopen. However, some legislators have been pushing for a resumption of operations.
According to a Pittsburgh Zoo news release, plans include a new operational model and increased safety measures, including:
• Limited, timed tickets.
• Additional hand sanitizers throughout the park.
• Increased deep cleaning of all areas of the property.
• Additional elevator and escalator attendants to monitor the number of guests entering these spaces and to maintain clean surfaces.
• Additional custodial staff in each open restroom to monitor the number of visitors and to maintain cleanliness.
• The closure of all indoor facilities and all playground areas.
• Additional signage throughout the park regarding social distancing.
Although the zoo has been closed to the public, animal care and property maintenance is ongoing.
