Man accused of holding up Robinson deli with rifle arrested in Pittsburgh’s North Side
A Thornburg man accused of holding up a Robinson market with a rifle was arrested Tuesday afternoon on Pittsburgh’s North Side, officials said.
Tyler Rutherford, 33, was wanted as the suspect in last week’s robbery of Rossi’s Market, a deli and convenience store on Forest Grove Road just west of Interstate 79, Chief Deputy Kevin Kraus said.
On April 28, a man officials believe to be Rutherford entered the deli wearing a hoodie and mask and carrying a rifle, according to Kraus. He then demanded cash.
Then on Tuesday, a week later, Allegheny County Sheriff’s Office received information suggesting that Rutherford was near Allegheny Center on the North Side.
Sheriff’s deputies spotted Rutherford at about 1 p.m. near the Sunoco gas station on Cedar Avenue.
They took him into custody and drove him to Robinson for questioning.
Further details about the robbery and possible amount of money stolen were not immediately available.
Rutherford had three outstanding warrants — an arrest warrant for the robbery, and two bench warrants for alleged probation violations related to a proper “theft and an escape, both in 2014,” Kraus said.
