A father charged with homicide 14 years after he shook his infant daughter turned himself in to Allegheny County police Thursday, authorities said.

Ariden Jackson, 37, of Edgewood served 10 years in prison for assaulting his then-4-week-old daughter in May 2005.

The child died earlier this year, and her death was ruled a homicide, as it related to the brain injuries she suffered at the hands of her father as an infant.

Jackson in 2005 had first tried to say he’d dropped the child while changing her diaper, according to the criminal complaint. He later admitted to shaking her three times.

Jackson told police at the time he was frustrated with the infant, Janiya, because she wouldn’t stop crying.

The assault left Janiya with severe brain damage and a seizure disorder, according to police. On Feb. 1, she was found dead at the home of her caretaker in Beaver County.

The coroner reported her cause of death to be complications from her seizure disorder and ruled the death a homicide.

Allegheny County police filed one count of homicide against Jackson on Wednesday. He surrendered just after noon Thursday and was taken to the Allegheny County Jail.
