Victim of fatal shooting in Oakland identified as San Jose man

Authorities have identified the man who was shot dead in Oakland early Wednesday morning.

The Allegheny County Medical Examiner’s Office identified the victim as Esam Tanzim Hossain, 23, of San Jose.

According to Pittsburgh police, officers responded to a ShotSpotter alert, followed by 911 calls of shots fired in the 300 block of Meyran Avenue around 12:35 a.m.

Police said officers found the victim had been shot in the head. Hossain was taken to a hospital, where he was pronounced dead.

No one else was hurt. Police said a vehicle was hit by gunfire.

No description of the suspect was available and the investigation continues.
