Police are investigating the death of a man found on the eighth floor of the Kimpton Hotel Monaco Pittsburgh early Saturday.

The Allegheny County Medical Examiner identified the victim as Jacob E. Brown, 41, of Burgettstown. No cause of death was given.

Police responded to a 911 call about a fight shortly after 2:30 a.m. at the Downtown hotel, 620 William Penn Place. Officers went to the eighth floor, where they found Brown unresponsive in the hallway, according to a police statement.

Brown was taken by ambulance to UPMC Mercy in critical condition. He was pronounced dead at 3:05 a.m.

Witnesses told police a fist fight broke out involving several men who were hotel guests. It is unclear whether the people involved knew each other.

Detectives from the Violent Crimes Unit and the Mobile Crime Unit are conducting interviews, and the investigation is ongoing.
