A man was rescued from a burning apartment in Mount Washington late Wednesday afternoon.

Pittsburgh authorities said city firefighters responded to a structure fire along the 800 block of Boggs Avenue around 5 p.m.

Responders encountered fire in one of the apartments and discovered a man inside.

Officials said the fire victim was carried out by firefighters and transported by medics to a local hospital in critical condition.

Firefighters extinguished the fire shortly after arriving, and residents were eventually allowed to return to their homes.

The city’s fire investigation unit is working to determine the cause of the incident.
