A Bethel Park man was shot and later died Thursday night after getting into an argument with a neighbor, according to police.

Officers responding to multiple calls about a man shot at a duplex in the 700 block of Horning Road at about 8:15 p.m. found 49-year-old James E. Rust suffering from a gunshot wound, according to Allegheny County police, who are leading the investigation.

Rust was in critical condition when he was transported to a hospital, where he died from his injuries at 9:19 p.m., police said.

The identity of the alleged shooter has not been released, though police say the man’s 27-year-old neighbor surrendered to police when they arrived at the scene.

Investigators said the men lived in separate units of a duplex and were involved in a dispute before the shooting.

Details of the case were presented to the Allegheny County District Attorney’s Office for review. Charges have not yet been filed against the shooter, police said.

Anyone with information about the incident is asked to call the county police tip line at 833-255-8477. Callers can remain anonymous.
