A man jumped into the Monongahela River to flee law enforcement after a two-vehicle crash that injured six people, according to the Pittsburgh Department of Public Safety.
The crash happened shortly after noon Sunday near the intersection of Bates Street and Second Avenue, in the city’s South Oakland neighborhood.
Five people were taken to the hospital, all in stable condition. A sixth was injured but not taken to a hospital.
The unidentified man who jumped into the river was driving one of the vehicles, according to the department. He was wanted on an outstanding warrant and allegedly left drug paraphernalia in his vehicle.
He eventually swam to the riverbank where he was taken into custody by police.
Charges are pending, police said.
